Work/Paint Project
Work/Paint is a project about women's labor practices. I wanted to create work that would use paint and written dialogue to witness the issues involved with daily labor practices. I invited a group of women to participate by sending me an image that they felt represented their daily work in someway, along with a short written explanation or commentary. I then painted these images as carefully as I could on the materials of everyday life - paper bags, pizza boxes, food packaging, etc. I also wrote letters back to the participants responding to issues that came up for me while I painted their images. The letters, initial text and photographs of the paintings are currently being put together in a small book that I will then send back to the original participants in exchange for their participation and as a testament to their work. (Book coming soon!)
