Fence and Sign is a commission by Youth In Arts, in partnership with Creative San Rafael - a collaborative effort from the City of San Rafael, the Business Improvement District, Art Works Downtown, the Fortnight Collective and Dominican University Department of Art, Art History and Design. I was asked to create a piece about the neighborhood and thought immediately transitional site downtown where old chainlink fences were being peeled back and layered with construction site fencing. The painting was made into a poster and layered with a quote from a local artist Pirkle Jones: "The moment we make a picture, we become political."
