Residency at the Orto Botanico di Palermo
In preparation for my residency, I spent time in my own (very small) garden in California. My neighborhood is in a Spanish mission town in California, that also has a history of Italian Americans. This means that most people have an abundance of fruiting trees in their backyards, the legacy of the agricultural traditions of both the local Mission and the migrants from Northern Italy. My tiny garden boasts an English Walnut tree that is about 150 years old. In late June I made a batch of walnut ink with it to use in my work at the Orto Botanico.
