Artwork > Residency at the Orto Botanico di Palermo

The Orto Botanico here is known for its monumental ficus trees. First brought from Australia, this Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla) is about 180 years old and is the originator of all the other ficus trees that characterize Palermo. Its large trucks are developed by air roots that become new columns when they hit the ground. It expands in this way, feeling more like a forest than a tree. Way too big for a single image.
